Neat

So there is a group of folks that I go to Happy Hour every couple of weeks with, and last week was one of those occasions. Little did I realize what might happen there, but since this group is open to all perhaps it shouldn't have come as a surprise. As it turns out one of the guys that I hadn't met who showed up was named Paul, and in a previous life he worked for Bombardier, which owns LearJet here in town, thus partly explaining why a Brit moved here. I mentioned to Paul who seemed to know a bit about racing that I would love to design and construct my own Group C based Prototype Sportsracer. Now this is somewhat of a pipe dream for me, I don't have any problem designing it, that is my background after all, but construction is a whole different matter. Working in a machine shop as I have means that I am well versed with what it would take for some of the pieces, but to build a composite monocoque would be more than I could handle. So I mentioned this to Paul and he promptly said he could get me in touch with people, and asked if I would like to work in that field. I was needless to say intrigued so I asked more about what he meant. It seems that he has done a lot of contract work in the field of composites, mainly over in Europe, and predominantly in the field of race vehicles. Some of the folks that he has met include Ron Dennis and Frank Williams, and he has worked on composites jobs for every F1 team bar Ferrari, and even then some of his stuff was on a subcontract to a prime supplier of Ferrari. So it looks like I shall be contacting Paul to get more info about what possibilities exist for me. I just think that's really neat.
